Abstract

Impact assessment frameworks play a vital role in the performance, accountability, and long-term outcome of international sustainability projects. As governments, international organizations, and development agencies increasingly use these frameworks in their policymaking and resource allocation, concerns have been raised about their ability to capture meaningful, sustainable impact. This paper assesses popular impact evaluation models used in global sustainability initiatives across environmental, social, and economic aspects. A comparative and systematic approach to analytic research is used to evaluate the selected frameworks against major criteria, including the relevance of indicators, potential rigor, data availability, scalability, inclusivity of stakeholders, and alignment with global sustainability agendas, such as the Sustainable Development Goals. To strengthen the analysis, the study uses a standardized scoring system based on descriptive statistics, such as comparative frequency distributions and variance across evaluation criteria. The findings show that there is a quantifiable difference in performance of the frameworks, with higher aggregate scores observed in short-term output tracking, compliance monitoring, and performance measurement, and low scores in measuring long-term outcomes, transformational change, and intersectoral or interregional impacts. The statistical trends also suggest systemic gaps in incomplete information systems, the lack of integration between qualitative and context-specific indicators, and inefficient registration systems, with implications at the community level. The schemes that include participatory assessment systems and online surveillance devices show relatively better results in various aspects. In general, current impact assessment models help track short-term deliverables and accountability, but they fall short in encompassing lasting, systematic change. The results specify the necessity of the adaptive, inclusive, and data-integrated assessment models. The research provides empirical evidence to enhance the effectiveness and accountability of global sustainability efforts by refining impact assessment frameworks and guiding policymakers, practitioners, and international bodies in advancing sustainability.
